The independent-practice squeeze

Running a practice alone has never been harder.

Independent physicians face mounting pressure from every direction. Atlas turns those pressures into shared strength — without asking you to sell or give up control.

On your own

  • Declining reimbursement from payers
  • Increasingly complex regulation and compliance
  • Rising overhead and operating costs
  • Pressure to transition to value-based care

With Atlas

  • Stronger payer contracts and reimbursement
  • A modern EHR and full technology stack
  • Centralized billing, credentialing, and admin
  • Compliant new revenue from shared ancillary services
  • The Atlas difference

Built for higher revenue and greater efficiency.

    How joining works

A clear path from first conversation to first payment.

Eight structured steps, fully guided by our team. You always know what happens next — and you keep practicing throughout the transition.

    1. 01

      Initial meeting

We get to know your practice and you get to know Atlas — an open conversation about fit and goals.

    2. 02

      Due diligence

Under mutual NDA and BAA, our team reviews your billing, financials, and operations, then details the specific benefits you can expect.

    3. 03

      Committee approval

If both sides are satisfied, our membership committee formally reviews and extends an invitation to join.

    4. 04

      Letter of intent

A letter of intent confirms mutual commitment while legal review proceeds, and lets credentialing and implementation begin.

    5. 05

      Legal review

You and your attorney review and sign the operating agreement joinder and management services acknowledgment.

    6. 06

      Credentialing

We submit your credentialing application to our payers. Credentialing typically takes 30 to 90 days depending on the payer.

    7. 07

      Implementation

We stand up revenue cycle management, EHR transition, administrative services, and ancillary services for your practice.

    8. 08

      Payment & reporting

We bill, collect, and distribute payments on a bi-monthly basis with detailed monthly reporting and quarterly ancillary profit sharing.

    Why physicians choose Atlas

The scale of a system. The independence of your own practice.

Atlas was built by physicians and a leading health system to solve the exact problems independent practices face — without the trade-offs of being acquired.

    You keep ownership and autonomy

Join as a member and retain ownership of your practice. Each physician manages their own care center, staff, and patients — Atlas handles everything around it.

Backed by a leading NJ health system

Formed in collaboration with one of New Jersey's largest health systems, Atlas brings the scale, contracts, and credibility of a major system to independent practices.

    Aligned, compliant profit sharing

Our group-practice structure creates Stark-compliant opportunities to share in ancillary and value-based revenue — aligning incentives without compromising compliance.

A true supergroup, not a sale

Atlas is a supergroup that delivers the advantages of scale while preserving the independence physicians value. Your former practice entity stays intact as your asset holding company.

    Questions, answered

    What physicians ask before joining.

Atlas is a New Jersey multi-specialty medical group operating as a 'supergroup,' formed in 2019 in collaboration with a leading New Jersey health system. Physicians who join become members and receive membership units while retaining ownership and autonomy over their own practice.

Atlas operates under one taxpayer identification number, made up of separate 'care centers' — each a satellite office run by its physician members. Atlas bills all professional services under its TIN, and each member receives the revenue from their care center, less that center's expenses and a management fee.

No. You bill your services through Atlas to access our payer contracts, but your former practice entity remains in existence as a holding company for the assets your care center uses — offices, equipment, computers, furniture, and leases.

Once we begin billing for your services, we collect from payers and distribute payments to you on a bi-monthly basis, net of care-center expenses and the management fee, with detailed monthly accounting. Profits from the specialty & ancillary pool are shared quarterly.
